Winter Storm To Strike Southern Parts Of The Listening Area

PIERRE, S.D. — A potent winter storm is set to strike parts of South Dakota Saturday through Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Midnight Sunday morning till 6AM Monday for Hughes and Stanley Counties.  Rain is expected to change over to snow overnight.

Snowfall amounts will vary significantly over the area, ranging from around an inch or less north of Pierre and Polo, to 1 to 4 inches elsewhere with the highest amounts south of a line from Highmore to Miller.  Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area, with localized amounts up to 5 inches in extreme southern Stanley and Hughes Counties.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Midnight Sunday morning till 6AM Monday for Lyman and Jones counties. Heavy snow expected with total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches expected a long I-90 in the Winter Storm Warning area.

Plan on difficult travel conditions including slippery roads Sunday into Monday.
