Pierre Men Arrested For Petty Theft Of Alcohol After Short Foot Chase

Pierre police arrested two men Thursday on petty theft charges. Captain Jason Jones say 26 year old Spencer Vocu and 26 year-old Christopher Scotti were booked in the Hughes County Jail on the charges. Just after 7:30 on Thursday, officers received a report of alcohol being taken from the 1500 block of East Wells Avenue and that two male subject were seen running from the store and leaving its property. Jones says the suspects were located a short time later near the 1000 block of East Wells Avenue near the railroad tracks. As officers attempted to make contact with the men, they began to run. After a short foot pursuit, officers detained the subjects and found the reported stolen alcohol with them. Petty Theft is charged when the value of the stolen merchandise is 400-dollars or less. Petty theft in South Dakota is a Class Two Misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and/or a 500-dollar fine.
