It was a battle last night between the Pierre Govs and Aberdeen Central. As this football game would come down to the wire but Pierre would ultimately lose 13-10. Aberdeen Central threw a touchdown pass with just 20 seconds left in the game to get the lead for the first time and the win.
The game started off good for the Govs as Hudson Rohrbach would find a hole and punch one into the end zone from 10 yards out, which made it 7-0. Aberdeen Central would answer with two consecutive field goals, which put the Govs up at half time up 7-6.
It was a slow start to the second half for both teams then senior kicker Casey Williams would hit a 39 yard field goal to make it 10-6 at that time. On the next two possessions the Golden Eagles would miss a field goal and throw an interception. After a punt late in the game Aberdeen Central would get the ball back one last time with a minute to go. They would go 80 yards and throw a touchdown pass from 15 yards out to take the lead for the first time in the game with 20 seconds to go. Pierre had one more chance but couldn’t get anything going as they would lose the game.
Pierre finishes the season 6-3 as Aberdeen Central goes 5-4. With Harrisburg losing last night that kept Pierre as the number one seed in the postseason that will start next Thursday they will play Brookings at home. Game time next Thursday is still to be determined but it can be heard on Today’s KCCR.
