Trailer Cleared From Viaduct After Early Morning Collision

A heavy duty wrecker from A and R Truck Equipment of Chamberlain yanked and tugged the 53 foot trailer out from under the viaduct around 1:30 PM. Pierre police received the report of the truck-bridge collision around 5:45 am. Officials from the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad were on-scene for a time. Two trains made the crossing without incident. The contents of the truck, where have not been disclosed, but did not appear to be dangerous were transferred to a second semi that was backed up to the south side of the viaduct. The truck’s driver, 41 year-old Gabriel Helfrich was cited by Pierre police for a truck route violation. Damage to the trailer is estimated at 15-thousand dollars. Damage to the bridge was has not been disclosed. All streets were open to traffic by two P-M.
