Sully Buttes Uses Turnovers En Route To Victory

The Sully Buttes Charger football team turned two Faulkton Area turnovers in the first half into touchdowns, and then held on and pulled away late to seal a 24-8 victory Friday night in Onida.

A Trojan fumble in the first half at the 43 resulted in a Devan Kleven to Grant Johnson touchdown pass and extra point, plus a Kleven interception in the second quarter was capped by a Mackenzie Weinheimer ten yard rush, plus the extra point to push the score to 16-0 at the half.

In the second half Faulkton came out and adjusted to the Sully Buttes offense, and scored midway through the third quarter to make the score 16-8.  Late in the game the Chargers used an 80 yard scoring drive, capped by a Kleven to Jaxon Yackley 38 yard score with 2:12 left to seal the victory.

The Chargers now finish the regular season at 8 and oh.  They’ll open Region 1 in 9B football playoffs Thursday night against Hitchcock Tulare, whom the Chargers faced on September 8th, and had a 40-0 win.
