The Pierre Govs football team was in a battle on Friday night with Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Govs would have the lead at half time but ultimately lost 27-21.
Rossevelt would score on their first two drives and have a 10-0. That was until Peyton Zabel was able to find Gage Gehring from four yards out to make it 10-7. Roosevelt would answer right back with another touchdown, which made it 17-7. The Govs would have a really good end of the half as Zabel would throw a 15 yard strike to Michael Lusk, which made it 17-14. Then right before the half Zabel would get it to Hudson Rohrbach from 21 yards out, which put the Govs up 21-17 at halftime.
Pierre’s offense just couldn’t get anything going in the third quarter as they punted every time they had the ball and Roosevelt would score right at end of the quarter to take the 24-21 lead going to the fourth. The fourth quarter wouldn’t go much better as Pierre would punt and fumble the ball as Roosevelt hit a field goal, which put it at 27-21. The Govs would have the ball with a little over a minute left and got it down to the Roosevelt side of the field but couldn’t convert a fourth down.
The Govs record falls to 6-2 on the year as Roosevelt goes to 7-1. The Govs will now look to get the number one seed in the post season and also the ESD conference championship with a win over at Aberdeen Central on Thursday at 5 pm. You’ll be able to hear this game on Today’s KCCR.
