Stanley County Schools Hold Native American Day Program

While most schools in South Dakota had no school due to the Native American Day holiday, at least one school did. Stanley County held classes and took advantage of the day to give students a taste of Native American culture. Cheryl Sorenson began the special program held at the Parkview Auditorium in Fort Pierre…

The program featured many Native American dances and drum songs….

Chris Mexican was one of the two drum performers…

The program featured a hoop dance and a jingle dance with one dress featuring 360 metallic “jingles”

The 45 minute program ended with a round dance, where all the students seated were invited down on to the floor of the Auditorium to form two circles of people around the drums, then simultaneously danced in the same, circular direction.
